Late former President Bingu wa Mutharika’s widow Callista on Thursday called police to her late husband’s sprawling Ndata mansion in Thyolo to chase late Mutharika’s daughters.
Police sources say late Mutharika’s daughters Duwa and Tapiwa want to claim the mansion.
The daughters and Mutharika’s only son Madalitso went to Ndata to change the mansion’s locks.
Callista: Fight with Mutharika’s kids over Ndata mansion
The children accuse Callista and the late president’s brother Professor Peter Mutharika for stealing their father’s wealth and demanded Mrs Mutharika, nee Chapola, out of the mansion.
“They came in when Callitsa was out, but later Callitsa came with Police officers with guns and shoved off the children,” eye witness said.
Tapiwa Mutharika said their father’s wealth need to be distributed and that the mansion belonged to the children.
The children attempted to change locks to the ‘white house’ that also has mausoleum of the late president and his first wife Ethel.
Callista on the other hand told police that the action by Mutharika’s children has saddened the family.
The children also want the former first lady and Peter Mutharika to stop administering late Bingu wa Mutharika’s estate.
Mrs Mutharika said she was ready for a legal battle.
But she wants Mutharika’s biological children to allow Mutharika’s name not be brought to public ridicule or that the family should be seen to be wrangling.
