DPP loyalists case resume in Zomba court on Wednesday

The Zomba First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last week adjourned to Wednesday hearing of a case involving three Democratic People’s Party (DPP) loyalists suspected of staging unlawful

demonstrations and illegal assembly in Zomba.

The three are the party’s regional director for the youth Steven Bamusi, regional secretary for the youth Maxwell Finiasi and Yunus Mussa’s personal assistant Edward Kandidziwa.

During the hearing, the magistrate adjourned the case, saying  the State prosecutor was not ready with the witnesses.

The three people are being represented by lawyer Kalekeni Kaphale.

They were arrested by the police on March 12 2013 a few hours after staging a protest against the arrest of DPP’s heavyweights that included their interim president Peter Mutharika and other government officials.

The party gurus have since been given bail by Judged Ivy Kamanga of the High Court in Lilongwe and were arrested in the aftermath of a Commission of Inquiry Report which exposes a plot to bar the then Vice-President Joyce Banda from ascending to the presidency in line with a
constitutional order.

On the same day there were also other protests on the same were staged in Thyolo and Phalombe where police officers fired teargas to disperse the supporters who went to petition their respective district commissioners’ offices requesting the release of their party leaders.
