The claims by Malawi President Joyce Banda that she was the first Head of State to be invited to the White House by the United States of America (USA) President have been disputed with a record showing founding president Kamuzu Banda was the first
According to official Malawi News Agency report, President Banda said at a news conference she held in Washington DC, USA: “At my age I never heard President of the United States of America ever invited Malawi’s Head of State. We had our former Presidents in Malawi in the name of Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Dr Bakili Muluzi and late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika; none of them was ever invited to be guest of President of the United States at the White House. To me it has happened: I first of all thank God and also President Obama himself to be here.”
But records show Kamuzu Banda was nvited to White House and hosted to a luncheon in the State Dining Room on June 8, 1967 by Lyndon Baines Johnson the 36th President of the United States.

Kamuzu was hosted at White House in 1967
