
President Guebuza waves at hundreds of Malawians who welcomed him at KIA
President Armando Emilio Guebuza of Mozambique arrived in Malawi on Wednesday on a three-day State visit .
Besides President Joyce Banda, Guebuza was also welcomed by Malawi’s First Gentleman Retired Chief Justice Richard Banda, SC, State Vice President Khumbo Kachali, Army Commander, Inspector General of Police, cabinet ministers, diplomats and officials of the governing People’s Party (PP).
On arrival, the Mozambican leader was welcomed by a 21-gun salute by the Malawi Defence Forces. He also inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by the Malawi Defence Forces before the two leaders drove away in the same vehicle to Mtunthama State Lodge in heart of the Capital City.
According to President Banda’s press aide, Tusekele Mwanyongo, the two leaders are expected to hold private talks on Wednesday afternoon and later lead their respective delegations during bilateral talks at Kamuzu Palace.
“Some of the landmark activities during the talks will be the signing of the Agreement for Malawi-Mozambique Power Interconnection Project; Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in Public Security and Immigration; Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in Environment; and Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in Youth and Sports,” Mwanyongo told Nyasa Times in a telephone interview from Lilongwe.
According to Mwanyongo, the visiting Guebeuza and his entourage will in the evening of Wednesday be treated to a ‘State Banquet’ at Kamuzu Palace.
Mwanyongo confirmed that the Mozambican leader leaves Malawi for Maputo on Friday.
