Malawi climbs two steps in latest Fifa ranking: Coach targets double digits

Flames caretaker coach Edington Ng’onamo described the latest Fifa World Ranking released on Thursday as an achievement to the nation but he has stressed that their target is 96 above.

In the ranking, the Flames have moved up with two steps from 111 to 109 in the world while in Africa they are ranked 32.

In a telephone interview with Nyasa Times, Ngonamo said he was delighted alongside his two colleagues Ernest Mtawali and Patrick Mabedi because this is the second rising since they took over the mantle from the previous technical panel.

“Let me salute the players, FAM, government and the fans because without them we could not be celebrating this achievement,”said Ng’onamo.

Flames coach Ng’onamo’s : Aiming at double digit

Ng’onamo  was however, quick to emphasize that  their target is to reach double digits like 96 upwards so that the country can stand a chance of exporting players to Europe.

The Flames next assignment is against Namibia on the 5th  June, 2013 at home before facing Kenya on 12th June,2013.

Meanwhile, Spain continue to lead the rest of the World at the top slot while Cote d’Ivoire remains the highest ranked African team in Africa.
