25 Muslim women in Malawi injured in road ancient

Officials at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Malawi’s commercial capital Blantyre have confirmed that three Muslims women are admitted at the facility after sustaining serious injuries in a bus accident that happened Sunday night at Salima turn off in which 25 were injured.

They say the three are among 15 women who were rushed to the referral hospital early Monday from to Balaka where others were being treated.

According to a story monitored on Malawi’s Radio Islam’s news bulletin,   the women were coming from women’s Ijtimah in Mzuzu which was officially opened by President Joyce Banda on Saturday.

National Chairperson of Muslim Women organization, Fatima Ndaila told the radio that the accident happened when the driver of Trans Kwenda Jenda Bus Company lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure.

Ndaila said the all those who were admitted at Balaka have so far been discharged and have gone back to their respective homes.

Balaka Police spokesperson has confirmed to Nyasa Times of the accident saying could not give more details as investigations were still under way.
