Malawi Government through the Minister of Youth and Sports Enock Chihana have succumbed to supporters of the six Blantyre-based Super League teams by re-opening Kamuzu Stadium which was closed two months ago due to safety and security fears.
Government directed for the closure of the giant stadium after some cracks were spotted at Biafra stands and Mighty Wanderers stands.
Since, its closure the commercial city of Malawi based teams like Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers have been struggling to find venues forcing them to travel as far as Balaka, Nchalo and Lilongwe to fulfill their fixtures.
The supporters through their spokesperson, Mabvuto Chibambo, demanded the stadium in the commercial city of Blantyre reopened in seven days or else they threatened demonstrations on November 2, 2012.

The supporters asked government to open the stadium and close the two affected stands in order to allow teams to use the facility.
On Wednesday the country’s sports minister Enock Chihana told the concerned supporters and journalists about the opening of the stadium.
Chihana said the two affected stands will be closed.
Football’s world governing body, Fifa, who have on several occasions sent inspectors to the oldest stadium in Malawi.
Fifa have recommended in recent years that the stadium’s capacity is trimmed from 60,000 to just over 32,000.
