Malawi’s former finance minister Friday Jumbe will announce the formation of a new political party formally on Tuesday, days after splitting from the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Jumbe who was ‘interim president’ of UDF, stayed away from the party convention last week which elected Atupele Muluzi as National Chairperson. Atupele will now contest the 2014 election as UDF presidential candidate.
But Jumbe has decided to form a new political party.
“Yes I am announcing my next move on Tuesday,” Jumbe confirmed to Nyasa Times.

Jumbe: New party
He however declined to pre-empt the “move” despite hinting that it will be the formation of new political party.
The announcement will be made at his Superior Hotel in Blantyre and will also reveal the name of the members of the newly formed party.
Jumbe expressed confidence that Malawians will support “the alternative.”
He is backed by former Speaker Sam Mpasu, former diplomat Ziliro Chibambo, Nicholous Kachingwe and he is likely to rope in former Likoma MP Dr. George Nga Mtafu.
