Nomads beat Tigers 2-0 to go fourth: Malawi TNM Super League

Mighty Wanderers spoiled Azam Tigers recovering process under their controversial coach Leo Mpulula with a convincing 2-0 victory on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre to claw back into the top four of the TNM Super League.

The Nomads leapfrogged Moyale Barracks to take fourth place on the log table with 42 points. Moyale drew with Red Lions 1-1 in Zomba.

Saturdays match was a too physical match, characterized by crude tackles as both teams used every tactics in the book to win the game.

The Blues were a better side of the day with a flowing inter-passing game through their man of the moment Victor Mpinganjira but failed to create any realistic opportunity to tear apart Azam Tigers defence.

In the 15th minute, the Nomads piled up more pressure to the Kau-Kau boys but their striking force failed to beat Tigers goalkeeper Nenani Juwayo.

However, in the 18th minute, the Nomads efforts resulted in a goal  by their midfield workhorse Alfred Manyozo  with a 30 metre drive to the satisfaction of the Nomads fans, who chanted, ‘’Yabooka! Yabooka! Tiga kumpanda.”

The goal rejuvenated the Nomads to control the game until resumption.

The second half which was an improved lot on the quality of the match that saw the Nomads continuing from where they stopped in the first half.

They scored the second goal through slippery Mpinganjira after a well taken free kick by Mike Kaziputa from the left flank.

Azam Tigers coach Leo Mpulula said they conceded “silly goals”.

Mighty Wanderers coach Felix Fosco said the victory was good for their revival.
