Malawi President Mrs Joyce Banda has asked young women leaders to be focused, resolute and assertive to succeed in life.
“Attaining leadership does not come easy and one has to make one step at a time,” said the President on the sidelines of the 20th Session of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The President said there will be many voices in life but as Christians they should listen good and not to be distracted, said President Banda at a high level intergenerational breakfast dialogue.
She also challenged professional African women that they cannot be truly called leaders if they are not mentoring young people to prepare them for leadership responsibilities.

Asking African professional women to take the lead and move into the future together, the President applauded African men for deciding to create space for women to assume and play leadership roles in various sectors.
The intergenerational breakfast dialogue was hosted by the World Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) jointly with the UNFPA, Girls not Brides, Action Aid International, Urgent Action Fund Africa, PMNCH.
Some speakers at the meeting included Zimbabwe Vice President Joyce Mujuru, Chile former President Michelle Bachelet.
