Malawi President Joyce Banda arrived in South Korea on Tuesday for a trip centered on a Global Development Summit, where she is expected to be a keynote speaker.
President Banda’s travel bills are being paid by the hosts.
Speaking to Nyasa Times from Pyeongchang, State House Assistant Press Officer Fallys Ngalauka said: “The people here were eager to see the Malawi leader Mrs Joyce Banda as she will make a keynote address at the summit.”
Ngaluaka said the Global Summit will, among other things, discuss ways of how to end the global cycle of poverty.
The Global Development Summit–Ending the Cycle of Poverty and Exclusion for People with Intellectual Disabilities–will serve as the first time the international development community, together with a cross-sector representation, to address these issues openly and work to identify solutions to implement.

Ngalauka explained that the Global Development Summit is a grouping of world leaders from government, business, education and other sectors that are meeting to find ways of helping people with intellectual disabilities.
The Global summit is taking place as part of the Special Olympics World Winter Games.
It is also expected to examine the urgent need of the largest disability population throughout the world and find ways of including them in the larger global development agenda.
In addition, President Banda will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of South Korea and hold talks with South Korean potential investors.
